In less than 3 years he created the first low cost airline in Spain starting from nothing being considered by many to be the Spanish ‘Richard Branson’. Carlos started his career in the family company AMC, moving to California as a consultant for McKinsey and Co. He graduated in Business Administration and Management from the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE) in Madrid specializing in Finance and also holds an MBA from Harvard University. Vueling Airlines origins date back to late 2002, when Carlos Muñoz and Lazaro Ros formed a development company that funded market studies and economic feasibility for the project. For Carlos the key to creating Vueling was finding the inefficiencies in the market, obtaining the cooperation of people you trust, like Lazaro Ros, being someone with extensive experience in the industry and the building of a solid business plan. Finally, to lead by example, Carlos and Lazaro began investing most of their capital into launching the company a fact that was greatly appreciated by the initial investors and showed their total commitment to the project. Although eventually leaving his executive role in Vueling in late 2007, with the company then having more than 1,200 employees and Euros 400 million in sales, Carlos still acts as adviser to the company. Currently (June 2009) he is devoted to a new business project, also linked to aviation, calling his interest to be both “body and soul.” An example of the passion and creativity he brings to all business commitments.
