From 1992 to 1994, he worked in a wood-craft company in Bandung. During that time, he learned a lot about craft from Mr. Surya Pernawa, the owner of the company. In 1994, he decided to return to his village, Kandangan, and start a partnership company produce wooden toys for export market. In 2004 he resigned from the partnership and built his own company with the brand Magno which produced wooden radio. This wooden radio gained a lot of international awards and world wide publication.
His passion and empathy towards the degradation of his village encourages him to find the solution. In 2012, he started Spedagi, a social movement focus on Village Revitalization with the iconic Spedagi Bamboo Bike he designed and produced. As he believes Village Revitalization is a global movement, he initiated an international conference on the same. It’s a bi-annual event and the 1st ICVR (International Conference on Village Revitalization) was held in his village, Kandangan, Temanggung-Indonesia in March 2014. That’s probably the first international conference on rural crafts and rural development, that combines seminars, workshops, excursion and performance.
