In 1985 the interior architect Evelyne Merkx set up her own interior design studio. She started working together with the architect Patrice Girod, and in 1990 they founded the firm of Merkx Girod architects, a firm for both architecture and interior design. The essence of the firm’s added value is that both exterior and interior space are completely integrated from the start of a project. Evelyne Merkx is responsible for the creative direction the firm takes; Architect Raphaël van Amerongen is responsible for the general management. Each project is closely coordinated from start to finish by a project team including architects, interior designers, draftsmen, and design engineers.

Merkx+Girod designs interiors for privately owned buildings as well as complete strategies for large and complex interiors of major public buildings, whereby both the logistic and functional requirements are integrated in a spatial vision. Since our foundation, we have worked on projects in the field of new housing developments, interiors, product development, consultancy, exhibitions and renovation. Design projects include restaurants, shops, department stores, private residences, museums and public buildings. Merkx Girod has its own materials and model studio where continuous research and development on form and materials is carried out. Merkx Girod architects now employs over 30 staff and is located in Amsterdam.

Merkx+Girod won a Contractworld award in the category of Shops/Showrooms/Exhibition stands for the Bookstore Selexyz Dominicanen they designed in Maastricht, Netherlands.
