Letterform that can fly, swim, bark, tweet or just stand still.

The workshops aims at understanding of characteristics of living beings (animals, birds...) and interpret them into form development of letterforms.

Methodology:
Identifying an animal/bird and describing its characteristics to the group. Zero-in to a max of three attributes.
Draw a letterform with hands (literally) using black ink on paper that inherits these attributes. Ink has to be applied directly with hand (no tools like brushes, pens... allowed).

Duration:
2 hours with a 15 minutes break (tea served in the workshop itself) followed by 30 minutes of critique.

Material requirements:

  • 5 imperial sheets per candidate
  • 2 litres of black fountain pen ink
  • 1 old newspaper per candidate
  • 1 volunteer (if possible)
  • B&W A4 good quality prints of a -- horse, dog (1 dobermann, 1mongrel, 1 greyhound), monkey, spider, cockroach, dragonfly, eagle, bull, elephant, cobra, shark, goldfish, crow, vulture, tiger, deer
