Indian - Dutch Workshop on the Future Design Education in India organized by the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering, Delft University of Technology the Netherlands on behalf of the Dutch government and Dutch design schools and universities.
The government of India has recently set up a National Innovation Council (NInC) www.innovationcouncil.gov.in and is keen on improving and boosting the design education in her country. Mr Sam Pitroda, Chairman of NInC invited the Netherlands for a proposal to support this process in view of its expertise and experience in design. This workshop together with a.o. the results of discussions with the design communities in the cities of New Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad en Bangalore are building blocks in a process that leads to a joint Indian-Dutch proposal by the end of this year.

) including (professional) background, address and your contribution to the workshop.
During this workshop we will have an in depth discussion on the NInC’s question and its possible answers.
Part 1: Understanding & Framing the question
The objective of the first part of this workshop is to understand and frame the question: What does ‘improving’ mean? What is exactly needed in terms of design education in India? What are the most critical issues for change? What are the barriers for growth? What is innovation in an Indian design education context? Is cooperation with partner countries a good solution? This part of the workshop should result in some clear starting points and questions for part 2.
Part 2: Exploring Ideas & Solutions
This part of the workshop builds on the results of the first part and will explore India’s design education of the future: What are the best ideas for India? What are the most effective ideas for India? What are the best ideas in a global perspective? If, like the National Innovation Council (NInC) is proposing, we aim on growth, how can quality be preserved? What partnerships can be identified? We are looking for effective opportunities. The end result should give us insights in how to scale design education and at the same time make it future fit.
Preliminary schedule for both parts: introduction (15 min) – brainstorm (40 min)- presentation of results and wrapping up (20 min)
