Bill Cahan is the founder and creative director of Cahan & Associates, a San Francisco graphic design agency.

Bill Cahan studied architecture at Washington University, St. Louis, and University of California, Berkeley. He became an architect and practiced at Anshen & Allen architects for 5 years, during which time, in addition to designing buildings, he was responsible for the rebranding of the architecture firm. In 1984 he left the architecture practice and started his own design consultancy, Cahan & Associates. He has lectured extensively around the World on the subject of design and branding for the Art Director’s Club, the AIGA, the London Type Director’s Club, at the RGD Ontario Design Thinkers Conference and at the HOW National Design Conference. He frequently judges design competitions for different design publications.

Clients are a diverse mix of Fortune 500, emerging companies, and nonprofit organizations, including The Coca-Cola Company, Eastman Kodak, Siemens, Gartner, Siebel Systems, Pottery Barn Kids, the de Young Museum, Barclay's Global Investors, Silicon Valley Bank, PBS, and Maxygen. Cahan & Associates was founded in 1984 and has garnered over 2,700 awards nationally and internationally for their portfolio of package design, annual reports, consumer and business-to-business collateral, promotional materials, event graphics and web site design.

Cahan works are in the permanent collections of the Cooper Hewitt, Library of Congress, Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe and SF MOMA.
